Mullets Forward Nate Holm Commits to NCAA D-III Northland College

FOREST LAKE, MN -- With his signature hair and beard, Mullets forward Nate Holm already looked a bit like a lumberjack, and on Tuesday, the Minnesota Mullets announced Holm will officially become a Lumberjack after committing to continue his hockey career at Division-III Northland College in Ashland, WI. 

“I’m really excited to play for Northland and push for the playoffs,” Holm said. “It’s a great fit for me, and they had everything I’m looking for (in a college). I love the smaller community and the whole atmosphere around the area.”

Holm will be a two-sport athlete with the Lumberjacks; in addition to continuing his hockey career, he will suit up for Northland’s D-III lacrosse team. Holm has played lacrosse for nine years, and he has also coached for three years at the high school and youth levels.

“Being able to play both hockey and lacrosse was a big factor in my decision,” Holm said. “It’s also great being able to stay close to home as well.”

Holm finished the 2018-19 season with 28 Goals and 30 assists in 43 games, finishing third in points among USPHL Midwest West Division scorers. He stands as the Mullets franchise leader in points (45 Goals, 53 assists = 98 points), and recorded his 100th career junior hockey point with an assist against the Hudson Havoc on December 7th. A leader on and off the ice, Holm was also one of the first Mullet captains.

“I’m excited for Nate and the Holm Family,” Mullets Head Coach Chris Walby said. “They have been a big part of what we’ve done here the past two years. Northland is the perfect spot for him to continue his career, and his contributions have left us in such a better place than when we first started.”

Holm plans to major in Business Management, with a minor in Sports Management.

Northland College finished the 2018-19 season with a 12-13-2 record, finishing third in the North Division of the NCHA. For the 2019-20 season, the Lumberjacks will be switching conferences to compete in the WIAC.
