Lakers advance to a 2-0 Record with win over Maple Grove...

The Edina Lakers opened their home portion of the schedule Sunday night against the Maple Grove Energy.  In the opening minute, Brandon Zurick took a pass from Brad Johnson in the slot and beat Chris Stokke top shelf for a 1-0 Lakers lead.  Later in the opening period, Tyler Brodersen scored with Daniel Handberg and Justin McLaughlin assisting.  The Energy awoke after this goal, and less than a minute later Dusty Munyer beat Brenden Kruckenberg for the Energy’s first goal.  Still later in the first period, TJ Marquardt scored on a breakaway to tie the game.

In the second period, the Lakers took the lead for good.  Michale Gullen scored, unassisted and later Ryan Heid drove in a rebound with Dylan Weigel and Connor Bodin assisting.  This set the tone, as the Lakers led 4-2 after two periods.

In the games final period, Ryan Heid scored a power play goal, from Mac Dow and Anton Martirosian.  Tadayoshi Shibata finished the scoring with a nice blast from the high slot.  Brodersen and Johnson assisted.

With the win, the Lakers move to 2-0(4 pts) on the season and remain tied for first in the MNJHL.  Their next game is at Hudson on Saturday before coming home to face the Owls on Sunday.  Both games will be carried on MSBN.
