Mullets’ Hoheisel Commits to Gustavus Adolphus

MINNEAPOLIS -- Another Mullet is on the move! On Tuesday, the Minnesota Mullets announced forward Cooper Hoheisel has committed to NCAA Division-III Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN.

“I’m pumped to go play for Gustavus,” Hoheisel said. “Playing for Gustavus will allow me to be close to home, family, and friends, which was very important to me (when choosing a school). It was my goal from the beginning of the season to be playing in the MIAC or WIAC next year, and now I’ll get to do that. They also offer both of my intended majors, which made the decision much easier.”

Hoheisel plans to study statistics to become an actuary, or physics in pursuit of an engineering degree.

“I think the biggest challenge for me next season will be learning how to have proper time management between school and hockey, but my time with the Mullets has me prepared for that,” Hoheisel said. “It taught me that what I put into life is what I will get out of life, and if I work hard, I’ll get what I’m looking for on and off the ice.” 

Hoheisel scored 34 goals and added 44 assists during the 2019-20 season, including 14 power play goals and 10 power play assists. In two seasons with Minnesota, he totaled 58 goals and 65 assists; Hoheisel’s 123 points make him the Mullets’ all-time leading scorer. 

“There have been so many great memories with the boys,” Hoheisel recalled. “We have had great groups of guys that made the seasons very enjoyable. I’m going to miss so many memories: hotels on the road, late nights with teammates, morning workouts, and the celly after goals. When Perky (Mullets teammate Tyler Perkins) and I looked at Coach for our last shift of the playoffs with tears in our eyes and knew it was our last ride with the Mullets, that’s a moment I’ll remember forever. I’ll miss the Mullets, but I’m ready to take the next step in my playing and academic career.”

“We’re very excited for Cooper and his family,” Mullets Head Coach Chris Walby added. “We knew going into the season what we were looking for and targeted specific schools in the Midwest.  Gustavus was always a great match and was very high on our list. We feel really fortunate they were interested. It’s a great fit.” 

“I wish Coop the best of luck in his college career and where ever hockey takes him after that. I’m looking forward to following this next chapter and will be forever grateful for the years we’ve spent together building our team. I sincerely appreciate the support shown by his parents and the opportunity to be his coach.”
