Mullets Forward Commits to ACHA Waldorf

By: Dan Bradley

MINNEAPOLIS -- Finding a school that feels like home is an important part of the college search process, and Minnesota Mullets forward Luke Wright has found just that. On Friday, the Mullets announced Wright has committed to ACHA Waldorf University in Forest City, IA.

“I’m eager to continue both my hockey and academic career at Waldorf,” Wright said. “I chose Waldorf because it is a small school, which was exactly what I was looking for. It is also close to home, which is really nice as well.”

Wright joined the Mullets almost halfway through the season, playing his first game with Minnesota during the Chicago Showcase. He scored 4 goals and added 4 assists in 20 games after starting the season with the Valley Jr Warriors of the Eastern Hockey League; Wright scored 2 goals with 5 assists in 17 games with the Warriors.

“My time with the Mullets was short, but I had a great time and I’m thankful I got to play here,” Wright said. “The challenge of joining a team during the season and finding success set me up well to hit the ground running at Waldorf. It will be a big challenge going back to a classroom after doing online high school and playing junior hockey, but I feel well prepared to work hard and keep going with everyone around me to build a successful next season.”

Wright plans to study business at Waldorf. He will also join Mullets teammate Morgan Sweeney, who announced his commitment to Waldorf earlier this month.

“Luke was a shot in the arm at the right time of year for us,” Mullets Head Coach Chris Walby said. “He brought a competitive energy that spurred us on throughout the season, and I know he will bring that same energy to his coaches and teammates at Waldorf. I’m very excited for him, and look forward to watching how the next chapter unfolds.”

With the commitment to Waldorf University, Wright is the 47th player from Walby’s programs to advance to a collegiate program over the past eight years, and the 7th Mullet to advance to college from the 2019-20 team. For more information on the Mullets program, go to www.mulletshockey.com.
