Lakers walk away from Dells with a win. Prepare for MNJHL opener in Owatonna Nov 4 where they will meet the Lights

The Edina Lakers made their second trip of the season to the Wisconsin Dells to face the Ducks. Friday night was the first of two games to be played on the weekend. The Ducks got up early on Mikey Wright’s power play goal just 2:56 into the hockey game. In the second period, Nick Brenneman scored for a two to nothing Ducks lead. Meanwhile, Matt Rowe was tough in net, stopping all 11 Lakers shots in the 1st period, and he was strong in withstanding the 17 shots he saw in period two.  In the third period, with the Lakers already trailing by two, Kristian Casella scored to extend the Ducks lead to three at 3:41 of the period. Not even two minutes later, Aiden Verbeke made it a four goal lead for the water fowl. Rowe continued to be strong in goal, stopping all 15 shots in the third period. In total, the Lakers threw 43 shots on goal, but none found the back of the net.

The two teams were right back at it on Saturday.  The Lakers finally ended their weekend scoring drought at 9:14 of the opening period when Matt Kroening scored. Brad Johnson and Connor Bodin assisted. In the second period the Ducks tied the score when Billy Warren lit the lamp. Aidan Verbeke got his second of the weekend five and a half minutes  later and the Ducks were up once again. Rather than wilt and go away, the Lakers rallied. In the third period, Derek McMasters tied things up at 8:22 with Luke Shelton assisting. Then, not one minute later, Drew Decker put the Lakers up 3-2 with Tyler Brodersen assisting. The Lakers limited the Ducks to 8 shots in the third period, and 29 total. The Lakers win the game and split the weekend series.

Next up for the Lakers a tough two game matchup with the Twin Cities Northern Lights. On Friday Nov 4th, the Lakers and Lights play the first of 5 games to be played in Owatonna. Then, on Saturday, the Lakers return to MN Made against the Lights. Last time against the Lights it was a tough game as the Lakers fell way behind early. This time, however, the Lakers will be ready.
