Blizzard Blitzes Boston, Cancelling Showcase as Mullets Return Home for Second Half of Season

FOREST LAKE, MN – As the Calendar turned to 2018, the Minnesota Mullets (16-10-3) had their bags packed for a trip to Boston, fresh off a 2-2 showing at the Midwest Showcase in Chicago and feeling well-rested following the Holiday Break.

The Winter Showcase loomed large for the team, with a chance to grab eight points in the standings against the Boston Bandits (16-11-2), Junior Bruins (12-12-3), Tampa Bay Juniors (18-13-1), and the P.A.L Junior Islanders (5-27-0) and start the new year off on the right foot.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Due to the inclement weather, flights were cancelled, games were rescheduled, and the Mullets stayed home.

With makeup games still in the rescheduling process, the Mullets are set to return home for the first action of 2018. The Steele County Blades (12-20-3) will come to Forest Lake for a 7:30 puck drop, with the Mullies heading to Owatonna for Saturday’s contest. Another home game for the Mullets comes Sunday night, for a showdown with the first place Minnesota Moose (27-5-2).

The Mullets have split the season series with Steele County; the Blades won 3-2 in a shootout in November, while Minnesota won 5-0 in December. The Moose will look to sweep the season series against the Mullies, winning 4-2 in September, 4-1 in October, and 7-2 in December.

“This weekend will be a big test for us,” Mullets Head Coach Chris Walby said. “Three games (are) on the schedule, but we’re looking at it as nine mini-games. Staying focused on winning each shift and each period has been a goal for us all year, and we will need to continue that mentality going forward.”

Friday Night, the Mullets will also be hosting Military Appreciation Night, sponsored by Collins Law Office, P.A. Come join the team as they celebrate past and current Military personnel, auction off a beautiful custom American Flag made by Fire Star Flags, and much more! Additional details available on the Minnesota Mullets Facebook page.
