Laker alum Walker selected in USHL Entry Draft
Edina, Minn. native selected 81st overall
Former Edina Laker Ben Walker was selected during the United States Hockey League’s Entry Draft Monday, May 14.
Walker was taken with the sixth pick of the sixth round (81st overall) by the Muskegon Lumberjacks.
The Edina, Minn. native played 12 games for the Lakers in 2009-10, starting what would a memorable hockey season by recoding seven points on two goals and five assists with his hometown Tier III team.
From there, Walker would transition to the Minnesota High School season, where as a sophomore, he completed the 2009-10 season by putting up 18 points in 31 games for Edina High School.
The Hornets would win the Class AA boys state hockey championship that winter, besting rival Minnetonka 4-2 in the title game before nearly 19,000 fans at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn.
This past year, Walker was third on the Edina High School team with 30 points (18 goals, 12 assists), helping guide the Hornets back into the Class AA state high school hockey tournament.
The 5-foot-10, 165-pound forward will now have the option to play at the Tier I level of Junior A hockey.
Muskegon was 24-28-8 last year, finishing as the fifth place team in the USHL’s Eastern Conference.
