Defenseman Chalupsky Commits to Concordia University Wisconsin

By: Dan Bradley

FOREST LAKE, MN -- The Minnesota Mullets are excited to announce defenseman Tyler Chalupsky has committed to play for Concordia University Wisconsin starting this fall. “T-Chup” plans to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement, though he is also considering a transition to Counseling.

Chalupsky finished the 2017-18 season notching 23 points (6 goals, 17 assists) in 35 games for the Mullets; he also added a goal and an assist in four playoff games.

“It took a while to get there,” Chalupsky said. “I’ve been debating between schools all summer, but Concordia is the right fit. The biggest thing was they have my degree, while some of the other schools I was looking at didn’t. I’m excited to get back in the groove of things schoolwise; it will be good for me to get back in the classroom, interact with people and make new friends.”

As enthusiastic as Chalupsky is to hit the books, he’s even more anxious to get back on the ice.

“After communicating with the coaching staff (at Concordia), I can already tell we are going to get along very well,” said Chalupsky. “There’s never a dull moment around the locker room so I’m excited for winter already.

Chalupsky credits his time in Junior Hockey as a great help in preparing him for making the jump to the NCAA.

“Juniors is fast-paced, and that’s what I needed to play in college,” Chalupsky said. “I would say for a smaller D man like myself, learning to keep my head up and develop puck vision has helped me hold my ground against other players, and I wouldn’t have gotten used to that if not for Juniors.”

Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) is located in Mequon, WI, just north of Milwaukee. The University boasts more than 7,500 students, split near evenly between undergraduate and graduate students.

“A sudden rush of relief came over me when (Tyler) told me it was finally a done deal,” Mullets Head Coach Chris Walby said. “I’ve been anxious about it all summer. He had offers from two great schools here locally that didn’t work out and it wasn’t looking good. Tyler is too much of a talent to pass up college hockey, so I’m extremely happy this worked out.”

30 players from Walby’s programs have advanced to the NCAA level over the last six years. For more information on the Mullets, go to www.mulletshockey.com.
