Mullets’ Morrison Commits to Northland College

FOREST LAKE, MN -- After three years of feeding on Junior Hockey competition, Minnesota Mullets forward Tyler Morrison will be putting some more on his plate. On Monday, the team announced Morrison (“T-Mo” to his teammates) will forgo his final two seasons of Junior Hockey eligibility to play Division-III Hockey at Northland College.

Morrison (‘00) finished the 2018-19 Season with 16 Goals and 16 Assists in 44 games for the Mullets, finishing fourth on the team with 32 points. He also recorded one goal in two games during the playoff series against the Wisconsin Rapids RiverKings. In his USPHL career, T-Mo recorded 74 Goals and 60 Assists in 137 games, spending two seasons with the Ironwood Yoopers before joining the Mullets.

“I decided to jump on this opportunity to play college hockey because not only myself, but everyone playing junior hockey wants to play in college, and when I got the opportunity, I couldn’t pass it up,” Morrison said. “Especially from a school with such a good program that was so close to home. I’m excited for the competition and intensity of the college game. I’m not nervous for anything, and I’m ready for whatever is thrown at me.”

Northland College is located in Ashland, WI, about an hour drive from Morrison’s hometown of Wakefield, MI. Northland hockey finished the 2018-19 season with a 12-13-2 record, finishing third in the North Division of the NCHA. For the 2019-20 season, the Lumberjacks will be switching conferences to compete in the WIAC.

“My time with the Mullets was the most fun I’ve had in a Junior season,” Morrison added. “Juniors is something I’ll never forget. Whether pushing myself to be the best I can, battling to prove myself every practice or messing around with (teammates) after, the countless amount of friendships I’ve made over my three junior seasons, it’s just a blast no matter what.”

One of those friendships in particular will carry through to Northland College, as Morrison is the second former-Mullet to commit to the Lumberjacks this offseason. Mullet captain Nate Holm announced his commitment to Northland in late April.

Morrison has not yet decided on a field of study.

“Congratulations to Tyler and his family!” Mullets Head Coach Chris Walby said. “I’m excited for them and can’t wait to follow him this season.”

With Morrison’s college commitment, 32 players from Mullets Head Coach Chris Walby’s programs have advanced to the NCAA level over the last seven years. For more information on the Mullets, go to
