Hastings, Minnesota product to backstop the Mullets in 2024-2025

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Mullets Head Coach and General Manager Chris Walby today announced goaltender Kody Niederkorn will return for the 2024-25 season.

Niederkorn, 19 (10/6/2004), played in 11 regular season games for the Mullets in 2023-24, joining the team after they returned from the 2024 USPHL Tampa Showcase. He went 5-6-0-0 and posted a .925 save percentage. In two playoff games he recorded a .906 SV%, stopping 87-of-96 shots faced and gained valuable playoff experience quickly into his Mullets career.

“We improved as a team when he joined us late last season and helped lead us to big wins and kept us in games,” said Walby on the addition of Niederkorn.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound native of Hastings, Minn., played two seasons at Hastings High School (2021-23), totaling 36 games and posting an overall record of 23-11-2. In 2021-22, Niederkorn played 10 games for the Raiders and went 8-1-1 with a .909 SV% and a 1.97 GAA. In 2022-23, he returned to play 26 more games for Hastings and improved to a .911 SV% while going 15-10-1 with a 2.93 GAA. He recorded two shutouts in each season with Hastings.

“It was definitely a jump from high school,” said the netminder on his transition from high school to juniors. “The team worked with me really well. They made me feel welcome right when I came. There weren’t many nerves when I got into the net for the first time.”

He is described by Walby as an athletic, left-catching goalie with sound fundamentals of goalkeeping. “He’s square to the shooter in most cases and he does well controlling his rebounds. I’m excited to have him back and expect the same from him this year.”

Looking ahead, Niederkorn is excited about, “getting the whole season with the team, just being there for the whole time, not missing out on anything.”

“I’m pretty excited to be coming back. It’s a good group of kids and it’s a fun team to be on.”
